{"id":8667,"date":"2026-02-26T13:13:23","date_gmt":"2026-02-26T18:13:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/radiology\/?p=8667"},"modified":"2026-02-26T13:14:25","modified_gmt":"2026-02-26T18:14:25","slug":"unc-cardiothoracic-imaging-makes-waves-at-str-2026-in-puerto-rico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/radiology\/2026\/02\/unc-cardiothoracic-imaging-makes-waves-at-str-2026-in-puerto-rico\/","title":{"rendered":"UNC Cardiothoracic Imaging Makes Waves at STR 2026 in Puerto Rico"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The UNC Cardiothoracic Imaging division marked a historic milestone this year, significantly expanding its educational footprint at the <strong>Society of Thoracic Radiology (STR) 2026 Annual Meeting<\/strong> held in beautiful Puerto Rico.<\/p>\n<p>Our team delivered a robust presence with <strong>four oral presentations, one scientific poster, and four educational posters.<\/strong> This achievement represents a major leap forward in our department&#8217;s national visibility.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Highlights of the Conference:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are incredibly proud of our diverse group of presenters who showcased the high caliber of research and clinical expertise at UNC:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dr. Vivek Somasundaram (Resident)<\/li>\n<li>Dr. Poonam Yadav (Fellow)<\/li>\n<li>Dr. Ajay Muthukumar (Medical Student)<\/li>\n<li>Dr. Behrooz Masoudi (Faculty)<\/li>\n<li>Dr. Clark Hollins (Faculty)<\/li>\n<li>Dr. Muthu Sakthivel (Faculty)<strong>A Decade in the Making<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This year was particularly significant as it marked the<strong> first time in a decade<\/strong> that both UNC Radiology residents and UNC School of Medicine students presented at the STR conference.<\/p>\n<p>Our evolution from a modest presence to a major contributor at national meetings is a testament to the dedication of our team and the unwavering support of our leadership. We extend our sincere gratitude to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dr. Kohi, Department Chairman<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Our dedicated Radiology Program Directors<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Dr. Hazelton, Cardiothoracic Imaging Division Chief<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The entire Cardiothoracic Imaging Faculty<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;This is just the beginning. We have evolved rapidly as a team, and we couldn&#8217;t have achieved this level of national recognition without the structural support and mentorship provided by our leadership.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Looking Ahead: STR 2027<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As we celebrate this success, we are already looking toward the future.
