The Department would like to congratulate Assistant Professor Carlos Zamora, MD, for completing the UNC School of Medicine (SOM’)s Academic Career Leadership Academy in Medicine (ACCLAIM) in May 2019, among 14 faculty members in the 2018-2019 cohort.

Assistant Professor Dr. Carlos Zamora

Every year, ACCLAIM selects junior SOM faculty with a keen interest in academic leadership to participate in this 12-month program. Faculty are mentored in a range of areas such as problem-solving and negotiation, tenure and promotion mentoring, academic career counseling, and short- and long-term leadership goals.

Since joining Department faculty in 2015, Dr. Zamora has built a solid teaching record that extends his early-career experience in medical education at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Some highlights of this scholarly work include serving as a Manuscript Reviewer and editorial board member for the American Journal of Neuroradiology (AJNR), as lead author of a neuroradiology 500-page reference manual (Neuroradiology Companion: Methods, Guidelines & Imaging Fundamentals, 5th Ed. – 2016), and as Guest Editor for the Magnetic Resonance Imaging Clinics of North America and AJNR News Digest.

Division of Neuroradiology Chief Dr. Mauricio Castillo nominated Dr. Zamora for ACCLAIM. Castillo noted: “Dr. Zamora has demonstrated to be an exceptional teacher and clinical neuroradiologist. As he continues to mature towards becoming an equally exceptional leader in our division, medical school, and neuroradiology at large, the ACCLAIM program experience will provide him with more tools to reach his full potential and aspirations.”
