Today the UNC Department of Radiation Oncology joins the celebration of World Radiotherapy Awareness Day, held annually to commemorate the first patient treated with radiotherapy. World Radiotherapy Awareness Day aims to improve awareness, access, investment, and support for radiotherapy worldwide. We are dedicated to improving the health and well-being of North Carolinians and others we serve. As we celebrate World Radiotherapy Awareness Day, we look back at what we’ve accomplished towards these goals and look forward. We train future radiation therapists, dosimetrists, medical physicists and physicians including learning and serving through community-based experiences. We offer world class cancer care and have expanded our functional medicine program. We are growing to serve our state including adding a clinic in western NC. We continue to invest in cutting edge radiotherapy equipment including our proton center. In service to the patients around the globe, our faculty are collaborating and forging professional relationships from Malawi to Barcelona, Japan and beyond. We come together today as one voice celebrating World Radiotherapy Day to support the mission of providing cutting-edge, personalized care for patients at home and around the world.
