Meet the SBBS Executive Board

Xavier is a 3rd year PhD candidate in the department of Biochemistry here at UNC-CH. Xavier is a native of Cleveland, Ohio. He received his B.S. in Physics from Morehouse College and later relocated to North Carolina for graduate school. Xavier’s thesis work focuses on investigating the function of HIV-1 particles and how they evolve over time.

Brea is a 5th year PhD candidate studying within the curriculum of Genetics & Molecular Biology here at UNC-CH. Brea is a NC native, originally from Bolton, NC. She received her BS in Biochemistry from High Point University and continued her graduate education here at UNC-CH. Brea’s thesis project focuses on the impact of genetic diversity on immune variation. Specifically, she uses bioinformatics methods to identify genome regions that regulate immune phenotypes at homeostasis and in response to infection.

 

 

 

Picture of Lakeya HardySecretary

LaKeya is a 5th year PhD candidate studying Food Allergen Immunotherapy within the department of Microbiology & Immunology here at UNC-CH. She is originally from Prince George’s County, MD, and later relocated to North Carolina, where she received her B.S. in Biology from North Carolina A&T State University. LaKeya’s thesis project focuses on  investigating the use of liposome nanoparticles to exploit inhibitory functions of sialic-acid binding, immunoglobulin-like lectins (siglecs) on B cells to induce allergen-specific tolerance.

Dre is a 3rd year PhD candidate studying hemostasis and thrombosis in the department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine here at UNC-CH. He is originally from Madison, NJ, and later relocated to NC where he received his B.S. in Biology from North Carolina A&T State University. Dre’s thesis work entails identifying genes that regulate fibrinogen expression.
