HIVE Grand Rounds: Moral Vocabularies in Medical Practice, Raj Telhan, MD

Raj Telhan is an Assistant Professor of PM&R and Social Medicine at UNC-Chapel Hill. He studied Literature and Medicine at the University of Virginia where he was a Crispell Scholar. He was Chief Resident at NYPH/Columbia-Cornell University Medical Center and also trained at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Telhan is a recipient of the Smith-Shanubi Scholarship at the New York State Writers Institute. His work appears in the Virginia Quarterly Review and The American Scholar. His essay, “Begin Cutting: Education by Knife” (Virginia Quarterly Review, Fall 2015), was honored with selection in the Best American Science and Nature Writing Anthology 2016 along side work by Oliver Sacks, Kathryn Schulz, Sarah Maslin and others. He is an interventional spine specialist and writes about the intersection of medicine, literature, and philosophy.
