Research Ethics Grand Rounds:“Digital Informed Consent for Pragmatic and Other Large-scale Trials”
May 18, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Digital technologies are changing how people are recruited to research and raising new ethical, practical, and social considerations. Informed consent practices are also affected, and demanding fresh scrutiny. This presentation considers some of the implications of digitizing informed consent from the perspective of a critical bioethicist who is also an NIH-funded “developer” of a digital consenting platform.
Christian Simon, PhD, is a bioethicist and medical anthropologist who works on informed consent and human research issues. He is the Medical Officer for the Institute of Clinical and Translational Research and also directs the Clinical Research Ethics Consultation Service at the University of Iowa.
