About Us<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

The Pre\u2011Award Research Operations and Support (PROS) Unit is part of the UNC School of Medicine Dean\u2019s Office and provides pre\u2011award research administration services to several School of Medicine departments and centers. Our team partners with faculty and departmental leadership to support high\u2011quality, compliant, and competitive research submissions.<\/p>\n

The PROS Pre\u2011Award Unit transitioned from the UNC School of Medicine Finance and Research Support Team (FiRST) as part of a strategic effort to strengthen and streamline pre\u2011award services across the School of Medicine. This transition allows our work to be more closely aligned with the School\u2019s research mission, strategic priorities, and expanding research portfolio.<\/p>\n

PROS provides comprehensive pre\u2011award support for a wide range of funding mechanisms, including federal, foundation, non\u2011profit, state, and industry\u2011sponsored research. In addition, our team offers clinical trial pre\u2011award support for assigned departments, including budget development, negotiation, internal routing, sponsor compliance review, and submission to the appropriate institutional offices.<\/p>\n

We work collaboratively with investigators, departmental research administrators, and central offices to ensure proposals are developed efficiently and in accordance with sponsor and institutional requirements. By housing pre\u2011award and clinical trial expertise within a dedicated unit, PROS promotes consistency, shared knowledge, and cross\u2011departmental collaboration.<\/p>\n
