{"id":2822,"date":"2018-05-22T17:19:42","date_gmt":"2018-05-22T21:19:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/spo\/?page_id=2822"},"modified":"2019-04-20T14:57:41","modified_gmt":"2019-04-20T18:57:41","slug":"salary-cap-cost-share","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/spo\/spo-knows\/salary-cap-cost-share\/","title":{"rendered":"Salary Cap &#8211; Cost Share"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Cost Share Calculations when Institutional Base Salary exceeds NIH Salary Cap.<\/h2>\n<h4>This is a descriptive list of values used to determine the Cost Share Total amount.<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Institutional Base Salary = Total Salary as shown in Infoporte (Base Rate plus any Supplemental Rates)<\/li>\n<li>Salary Cap<\/li>\n<li>Cost Share Base Salary<\/li>\n<li>Percent Effort<\/li>\n<li>Cost Share Salary<\/li>\n<li>Fringe Percent Rate<\/li>\n<li>Cost Share Fringe Amount<\/li>\n<li>Cost Share Total<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>One thing to remember is DO NOT USE the Health insurance component when calculating cost share.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>The Health insurance component calculation is prorated to Percent of Effort.<\/li>\n<li>All of the Health insurance component amount is collected when calculating the Salary within the Salary Cap.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Cost Share Total amount should be calculated as follows.<\/span><\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Institutional Base Salary &#8211; Salary Cap = Cost Share Base Salary<\/li>\n<li>Cost Share Base Salary x Percent Effort = Cost Share Salary<\/li>\n<li>Cost Share Salary x Fringe Percent Rate = Cost Share Fringe Amount<\/li>\n<li>Cost Share Salary + Cost Share Fringe Amount = Cost Share Total<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Cost Share is calculated only on the first year (initial period).<\/p>\n<h4>Example<br \/>\nDr. Meredith Grey is a FP Practice Plan member (1\/31\/19 rates) with an Institutional Base Salary of $210,000 wants to devote 10% Effort on a project when the NIH Salary Cap is $192,300.<\/h4>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em>What is the Salary Cap value to add to the Budget section of the IPF in RAMSeS ?<\/em><\/span><\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Institutional Base Salary &#8211; Salary Cap = Cost Share Base Salary\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: lower-alpha\">\n<li>$210,000 &#8211; $192,300 = $17,700<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Cost Share Base Salary x Percent Effort = Cost Share Salary\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: lower-alpha\">\n<li>$17,700 x 10% = $1,770<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Cost Share Salary x Fringe Percent Rate = Cost Share Fringe Amount\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: lower-alpha\">\n<li>$1,770 x 29.426% = $521<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Cost Share Salary + Cost Share Fringe Amount = Cost Share Total\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: lower-alpha\">\n<li>$1,770 + $521 = $2,291<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>In this case $2,291 would be added to the mandatory cost share area within the Budget section of the IPF in RAMSeS.<\/h4>\n<p>A Cost Share calculator has been added to the Calculator worksheet in the Sponsored Programs Office Budget Template Workbook.<\/p>\n<p>Please<a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/spo\/downloads\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> visit the Sponsored Programs Office Downloads page<\/a> for your copy of the SPO Budget Template Workbook.<\/p>\n<p>The Sponsored Programs Office Downloads page is behind an &#8220;Onyen&#8221; based firewall.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cost Share Calculations when Institutional Base Salary exceeds NIH Salary Cap.
