UPDATED Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for the Research Data Management Core<\/a> (RDMC)<\/h4>\n

We understand that the introduction of the NEW RDMC fees, released on September 24, 2024<\/a>, may raise some questions. That\u2019s why we\u2019ve updated this section to address the most common inquiries related to these new fees. If you have any additional questions, feel free to reach out!<\/p>\n

RAMSeS<\/span><\/h4>\nWhere can I find guidance on the Data Management and Sharing Screen in the RAMSeS IPF?<\/span>
The Research Data Management Core team has published guidance on their site page titled – RAMSeS IPF Data Management and Sharing Screen<\/a>.<\/div>\nWhere can I get additional help with the Data Management and Sharing Screen in the RAMSeS IPF, if I still have questions after reviewing the RAMSeS IPF Data Management and Sharing Screen instructions?<\/span>
The RDMC site<\/a> features a \u2018Need Help<\/a>?\u2019 section, complete with various forms for asking a question<\/a> or a general support request<\/a>. For inquiries specific to your situation, it is recommended to reach out directly to the subject matter experts at the RDMC.<\/div>\nWhich categories of sponsored projects are subject to the new data management fee?<\/span>
The new data management this service fee is applied to all sponsored projects that fall under the categories of Organized Research (OR), Clinical Trials (CT). These projects are part of the new Core initiative, which aims to support data management across the campus community.<\/div>\nUnder what specific conditions does the new Data Management and Sharing Screen appear in the RAMSeS IPF?<\/span>
The new Data Management and Sharing Screen in the RAMSeS IPF becomes visible under certain conditions. Specifically, it appears when either 01 – Research & Development (R&D) or 05 – Clinical Trial is selected in the Activity Type\/Chess Code section, located on the General Info screen of the IPF.
\nHowever, please note that there are exceptions to this rule. For instance, the screen will not be displayed if the Award type, on the General Info screen of the IPF, is set to NIH_Grant and the mechanism is categorized as either F-Series or T-Series.<\/p>\n

At the Time of Application Submission<\/span><\/h4>\nWhat is the Data Management and Sharing Plan (DMSP) review service at UNC?<\/span>
The Research Data Management Core (RDMC) team at UNC offers a DMSP review service to support compliance with funding agencies\u2019 data management and sharing policies. This service, while strongly suggested, is not mandatory. The RDMC team, which includes experts in data management, archiving, computation, information systems, and multiple scientific disciplines, will review your plan for completeness, appropriateness, and compliance. You will receive feedback with recommendations for improving your plan and advice on implementation.<\/div>\nIf I choose to utilize the DMSP review service, when should I request a DMSP review?<\/span>
It is recommended that DMSP reviews be requested at least 3 weeks prior to the funding agency\u2019s proposal submission deadline. This ensures that the RDMC team has sufficient time to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the DMSP and allows you or your project team time for necessary revisions, consultations, and\/or quotes for additional services from relevant UNC units. Please note that if a DMSP review request is submitted less than 3 weeks prior to the proposal due date, the RDMC team cannot guarantee that the DMSP will receive the full attention necessary to ensure policy compliance.<\/div>\n
