{"id":3335,"date":"2020-04-03T16:55:12","date_gmt":"2020-04-03T20:55:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/spo\/?p=3335"},"modified":"2020-04-03T16:55:12","modified_gmt":"2020-04-03T20:55:12","slug":"what-is-a-notice-of-special-interest-nosi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/spo\/2020\/04\/what-is-a-notice-of-special-interest-nosi\/","title":{"rendered":"What is a Notice of Special Interest (NOSI)?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>School of Medicine &#8211; Sponsored Programs Office<\/p>\n<p>Recently, SPO has seen an increase in applications for Administrative Supplements that are in response to a Notice of Special Interest (NOSI).<\/p>\n<p>So what is a NOSI anyway?<\/p>\n<div class=\"panel-body\">\n<p>Notices of Special Interest (NOSIs):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Succinctly highlight a specific topic of interest, for example a specific area of research or program<\/li>\n<li>Direct applicants to one or more active funding opportunity announcements (often <a href=\"https:\/\/grants.nih.gov\/grants\/guide\/parent_announcements.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">parent announcements<\/a>) for submission of applications for the initiative described<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Traditionally, NIH has posted numerous program announcements with standard submission and review requirements that vary from one another only in the scientific topics highlighted. Notices of special interest streamline how NIH announces areas of interest by focusing on the unique aspects of the opportunities (the topic areas) and deferring to existing, active FOAs for the submission logistics. Many program announcements will be issued as NOSIs going forward.
