{"id":4595,"date":"2025-08-29T10:54:19","date_gmt":"2025-08-29T14:54:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/spo\/?p=4595"},"modified":"2025-08-29T14:07:44","modified_gmt":"2025-08-29T18:07:44","slug":"guidance-for-2025-nih-lrp-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/spo\/2025\/08\/guidance-for-2025-nih-lrp-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Guidance for 2025 NIH Loan Repayment Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On <a href=\"https:\/\/osp.unc.edu\/2025\/08\/guidance-for-2025-nih-lrp-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">August 29, 2025 the Office of Sponsored Programs published the Guidance<\/a> for 2025 NIH LRP Program<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/nih.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Institutes of Health<\/a> (NIH) is accepting new and renewal applications from <strong>September 1 through November 20, 2025<\/strong> for its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lrp.nih.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Loan Repayment Programs<\/a> (LRP) that provide support to health professionals pursuing careers in biomedical and behavioral research. NIH can <strong>repay up to $50,000<\/strong> a year of qualified educational debt through six different <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lrp.nih.gov\/apply#extramural\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">extramural programs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Refer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lrp.nih.gov\/infographics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NIH Interactive Roadmap<\/a> for guidance on the LRP application process.<\/li>\n<li>Refer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lrp.nih.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NIH LRP webpage<\/a> for full eligibility requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>LRP Application Period<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>September 1, 2025 \u2013 November 20, 2025<\/strong><br \/>\nIn order to meet the NIH deadline, the <a href=\"http:\/\/osp.unc.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Office of Sponsored Programs<\/a> (OSP) requires a completed UNC LRP Certification Form (PDF) to be <strong>submitted to our office by November 13, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>eRA Commons ID Requirement<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Both LRP applicants and their mentors or supervisors must possess an <a href=\"https:\/\/public.era.nih.gov\/commonsplus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eRA Commons ID<\/a> and be designated with appropriate roles:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>LRP applicants: <strong>PD\/PI<\/strong> role<\/li>\n<li>LRP mentor\/supervisors: <strong>LRPS<\/strong> role<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>UNC LRP Form is due to OSP by Thursday, November 13.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4><strong>UNC Submission Process<\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4><strong>Reminders for the NIH LRP application<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Applicants should complete the LRP application online.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Amanda Chang<\/strong> as the <strong>Institutional Business Official<\/strong> (IBO) and use SponsoredPrograms@unc.edu as the email address.<\/li>\n<li>UNC IBO eRA Commons ID is AMANDA_CHANG.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Reminders for the UNC LRP Form<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/osp.unc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1202\/2022\/09\/OSP_NIH-LRP-Certificaton-Form_2025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UNC Loan Repayment Program Certification Form<\/a> (PDF) does not open in a web browser. Clicking the link will automatically save the form to your computer\u2019s Download folder, where you can open it using Adobe.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>UNC LRP Form is due to OSP by <strong>Thursday, November 13, 2025<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Complete all fields and obtain department certification signature.<\/li>\n<li>Email completed UNC LRP Form to SponsoredPrograms@unc.edu.<\/li>\n<li>Once the UNC LRP Form is received and reviewed, OSP will certify the applicant\u2019s information in the NIH LRP system before the NIH deadline.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Resources<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/osp.unc.edu\/resources\/guidance-faqs\/nih-lrp-guidance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NIH Extramural Loan Repayment Program Guidance<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>The online application for the NIH LRP is considered complete only after it has been certified by UNC\u2019s institutional business official.
