Who We Are<\/h1>\n<\/div>\n

The North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center at the University of North Carolina (UNC) Medical Center is one of the largest burn centers in the US with 36 beds comprised of 21 Burn Intensive Care (BICU) beds and 15 progressive care ward beds. The Jaycee Burn Center provides the full spectrum of care including fully trained burn surgeon intensivists, specialized nursing staff, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, occupational and physical therapists, case managers, child life specialists, and recreational therapists. In addition, the burn center has developed sophisticated
\naftercare and outreach programs tailored to the needs of the community.<\/p><\/article>\n

 <\/p>\n

The NC Jaycee Burn Center will admit an average of 1600 patients annually and in coordination with the UNC Children\u2019s Hospital, a third of those admissions are pediatric patients. We receive patients from the entire state of North Carolina and in recent years 89 of the 100 counties in the state have referred patients here. We also receive referrals from southern Virginia and South Carolina. Our outpatient services are one of the busiest in the nation with over 5000 patients seen already in this fiscal year. Outreach activities at the burn center are devoted to community education, basic burn care training, and preventive medicine. Our research activity has accelerated over the years with fully staffed clinical and basic research divisions dedicated to the advancement of burn medicine.<\/p>\n

We remain committed to the mission of burn care in the state of North Carolina and are grateful to the local fire departments, community organizations, commercial industries, and businesses that support us. We view this mission as a special partnership between the burn center and the community we serve.<\/p>\n
