Thomas G. Caranasos, MD
Director, Adult Cardiac Surgery. Surgical Director, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement Program, UNC Hospitals. Adult cardiac and thoracic surgery including heart and lung transplantation and ventricular assist device (VAD) implantation. Special interest in aortic surgery including the ascending, arch pathology, thoracic aorta and aortic root, transcatheter aortic valve surgery, mitral and aortic valvular surgery, minimally invasive approaches to cardiac surgery, video-assisted thoracic surgery. Research interests: Surgical treatment of the aorta, transcatheter valvular surgery, hybrid coronary revascularization and valvulvar surgery.
Thomas M. Egan, MD, MSc
Bronchoscopy, interventional bronchoscopy, treatment planning for stereotactic radiosurgery (Cyberknife) for lung cancer. Dr. Egan no longer performs surgery due to a physical disability, but provides 2nd opinions/consultation on lung transplantation, lung cancer, esophageal cancer, airway diseases and problems. Research: ischemia-reperfusion injury, lung transplantation, lung transplant from non-heart-beating donors, ex-vivo lung perfusion/ventilation.

Research interests: Thoracic oncology, cardiothoracic surgery simulation training. Dr. Feins no longer performs surgery. He is medical director of perioperative services at UNC Hospitals.
