A Pediatric Surgeon is a general surgeon who has been trained specifically to care for infants and children with surgical problems. In addition to 5 years of general surgical training and 1 to 2 years of research, a Pediatric Surgeon receives an additional 2 years of full-time clinical training in the surgical evaluation and management of infants and children. This experience typically occurs at one of the 32 approved pediatric surgical fellowships in the US and Canada.
