The Pediatric Trauma Service at the University of North Carolina Hospitals coordinates the often complex care of injured children. A multi-disciplinary team of Pediatric Surgeons, Pediatric Neurosurgeons, Pediatric Orthopedists, Pediatric Critical Care physicians, nurses, therapists, and other health care professionals is involved in the evaluation, stabilization, acute, and long-term treatment of these patients. This team is highly trained and broadly experienced in the management of everything from gunshot injuries to falls to motor vehicle accidents that injure children. (The team of the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center<\/a> cares for children who suffer burn injuries.)<\/p>\n

UNC is a Level One Trauma Center. In collaboration with our colleagues in the Department of Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, and the Carolina Aircare Transport Team<\/a>, we are available at all times for consultation and referral of pediatric trauma patients.<\/p>\n

Part of our mission involves the education of other health care professionals as well as the community and we are available to discuss “child safety” issues with schools, parents and emergency response teams. Furthermore, we are actively investigating pediatric trauma-related issues to better understand and prevent this leading killer of children in North Carolina. UNC’s multidisciplinary team of surgeons, pediatric intensive care physicians, rehab specialists, and nurses is a leader in the state of North Carolina for the acute and chronic care of injured children. Along with a highly-trained Pediatric Transport team, they are available at all times for consultation and referral.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
