Here at UNC, we treat the complete spectrum of diseases of the endocrine glands. We utilize all of the latest techniques including the most minimally invasive surgery possible. A great deal of information about these diseases can be found on the Internet, but some of it is unreliable. A good, unbiased source of information is the web site from the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, parts of which were written by Dr. Kim: http:\/\/endocrinediseases.org<\/a>. We will be happy to see any patients with surgical diseases of the thyroid, parathyroid, pancreas or adrenal glands. Because we are an academic center, we endeavor not only to provide excellent individual care, but to advance knowledge of these diseases. We prefer that your physician contact us so that we can make sure the referral is appropriate and that your time is not wasted by coming to see us for diseases that are more appropriately seen by other types of physicians. However we will be happy to see you without a physician referral. Please be advised that we cannot give any medical advice until we see you and review your records. <\/em><\/strong>This is for your safety. If you have been treated previously at another hospital, it is important to bring all previous x-ray studies and as many pertinent medical records as possible. This is for your convenience and will minimize the number of visits necessary. If you have previously had surgery we will need your previous operative report and pathology report, usually available from your doctor or from medical records at your previous hospital.<\/p>\n

For new patients we ask that you bring with you a questionnaire regarding your medical history. There is a different one for thyroid<\/a>, parathyroid<\/a>, and adrenal<\/a> patients. All patients should also complete our general history forms<\/a>.<\/p>\n
