We have been leaders in improving patient clinical outcomes through education, research, and clinical medicine. Our innovative approach provides the latest advances in immunosuppressive medications and other medical\/surgical techniques to all of our patients. Located in UNOS Region 11, UNC transplants patients have come from around the nation.<\/p>\n<p>In 1997, our Transplant Team performed the first laparoscopic-assisted live-donor nephrectomy procedure in the state of North Carolina. This minimally invasive operation reduces recovery time, scarring, and post-operative pain. This surgical advance has allowed more people to become living donors.<\/p>\n<p>All UNC transplant patients have access to extensive support services including nutritional, pharmaceutical, and financial services. Local accommodations for transplant patients and their families have been a focus for our program. These accommodations include hotels and <a href=\"http:\/\/secufamilyhouse.org\/\">SECU Family House of UNC Hospital<\/a>.
