Welcome to the Division of General and Acute Care Surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This program was started by Dr. Anthony A. Meyer<\/a> in 1987 and has continually produced surgeons to enter academic Surgical Critical Care. To date, all fellows completing this program have passed the Certificate of Added Qualifications in Surgical Critical Care, administered by the American Board of Surgery on their first attempt.<\/p>\n

This program is a multi-disciplinary program geared to provide our fellows a broad experience in critical care. The program has the added flexibility to provide additional exposure in areas of specific interest for individual fellows. These areas include the Burn Unit, Pediatric Critical Care, Pulmonary Critical Care, Neurosurgery Intensive Care Unit, ECMO and others.<\/p>\n

  1. Train academic surgeons in critical care.<\/li>\n
  2. Satisfy the requirements leading to certification in Surgical Critical Care by the American Board of Surgery.<\/li>\n
  3. Successful completion of the examination for Added Qualifications in Surgical Critical Care by the American Board of Surgery<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
