Alpha Omega Alpha<\/a>, founded in 1902, is the national medical honor society. Its mission statement is:<\/p>\n

Alpha Omega Alpha \u2014 dedicated to the belief that in the profession of medicine we will improve care for all by
\n\u2022 recognizing high educational achievement
\n\u2022 honoring gifted teaching
\n\u2022 encouraging the development of leaders in academia and the community
\n\u2022 supporting the ideals of humanism
\n\u2022 promoting service to others.<\/p>\n

Election to Alpha Omega Alpha is an honor signifying a lasting commitment to scholarship, leadership, professionalism, and service. A lifelong honor, membership in the society confers recognition for a physician\u2019s dedication to the profession and art of healing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
