Meyer, MD, PhD. Dr. Meyer received his medical degree and his doctorate in Immunology and Pathology from the University of Chicago. He completed his surgical residency at the University of California at San Francisco and served as Assistant Professor of Surgery and Anesthesiology at UCSF before coming to UNC in 1984. Dr. Meyer has served in many roles in the department, among them Chief of General Surgery, Director of the Surgery Residency Program, Medical Director of Critical Care for UNC Hospitals, and Director of Burn Research. He is a member of the UNC chapter of Alpha Omega Alpha, and is nationally known for his participation in many professional organizations, including the American Board of Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, and the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 2001, Dr. Sheldon turned over the reins of chairmanship to Anthony A.
