Dr. Anthony Charles<\/a> was presented with the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award at the UNC School of Medicine Commencement Ceremony on May 9, 2009.\u00a0 The award, sponsored by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation, recognizes a medical school faculty member who integrates humanism into the delivery of care to patients and their families. The recipient consistently demonstrates compassion and empathy in the delivery of care, shows respect for all, demonstrates cultural sensitivity, displays effective communication and listening skills, adheres to professional ethical standards, understands a patient\u2019s need for interpretation of complex medical diagnosis while showing respect for a patient\u2019s viewpoint, pays attentions to patients\u2019 psychological well-being, engenders trust and confidence, and remains personally committed to self-evaluation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
