It is with great pleasure that UNC Surgery\u00a0announces the appointment of Dr. Mark Farber<\/strong> as the Chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery <\/strong>effective November 1, 2018.\u00a0 Dr. Farber currently serves as the Program Director for the vascular surgery residency program, a role he has held since 2008.\u00a0 He also serves as the Director of the Endovascular Institute at the UNC School of Medicine and the Medical Director of the Aortic Program.\u00a0 In addition, he has played a critical role in the development of the Aortic Network across the entire UNC Health Care System, which includes eleven hospitals throughout North Carolina.\u00a0 Through this Aortic Network, Dr. Farber has been instrumental in improving the outcomes of patients with aortic disease through the initiation of the PS-IDE clinical trial, which is one of only approximately eight programs of its kind in the United States.\u00a0 Dr. Farber is a renowned vascular surgeon with a national and international reputation.\u00a0 He will make an outstanding Chief given his wide-ranging experience, deep clinical and institutional knowledge, commitment to the research and education missions, and his ability to leverage and lead successful collaborations across our institution, the state, and our country.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n UNC Surgery would like to thank the George J. Johnson Distinguished Professor Dr. William Marston<\/strong> for his service in the role as the Chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery<\/strong>, a position he has held since 2008.\u00a0 His legacy as Chief gives us much to celebrate as his leadership, creativity, and innovative spirit has resulted in many impressive initiatives.\u00a0 He has overseen significant growth of the division and his leadership demonstrates a commitment to clinical excellence, exceptional education, and groundbreaking research.\u00a0 Dr. Marston will continue to serve as the Medical Director of the UNC Wound Health Center, a position he has held since 1995. \u00a0Here, he has he brought his vision and research efforts to advance on the etiology and treatment of diabetic foot and venous stasis ulcers, and the treatment of critical limb ischemia to maximize limb salvage and improve patient outcomes.\u00a0 Most recently, he was nominated as Secretary for the American Venous Forum and serves on the editorial board of both the Journal of Vascular Surgery and the Journal of Vascular Surgery Venous and Lymphatic Disorders.\u00a0 We look forward to Dr. Marston\u2019s continued contributions at the national and international level and are grateful he will continue his service to the Department, School of Medicine, and UNC Health Care System.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Dr. Mark Farber is appointed\u00a0as the Chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":83776,"featured_media":3597,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"layout":"","cellInformation":"","apiCallInformation":"","footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[28],"featured-item":[],"class_list":["post-8065","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-news","odd"],"pp_force_visibility":null,"pp_subpost_visibility":null,"pp_inherited_force_visibility":null,"pp_inherited_subpost_visibility":null,"acf":[],"yoast_head":"\n![\"Dr.](\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/surgery\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/854\/2018\/09\/dr-marston-nominated-as-secretary-of-the-american-venous-forum-image2-200x300.jpeg\")
