Joanne M. Jordan, MD MPH of UNC Thurston Arthritis Research Center and chair of the U.S. Bone and Joint Initiative's Chronic Osteoarthritis Management Initiative (COAMI) discussed the new research on osteoarthritis prevention in a recent story in USA Today. In the story, Jordan points out pain needs to be treated before it gets generalized. To do that OA needs early diagnosis so people can stay active and reduce their likelihood of having their arthritis worsen.>
In September, COAMI issued a Call to Action : A New Vision for Chronic Osteoarthitis Management. In it they prioritized several actions including exploring standardizing screening tools and indicators of OA, to make early diagnosis more consistent, and developing tools to promote patient engagement in learning about and managing OA.
