SUMMARY:TARC Research Seminar: Dr. Lauren Schnabel; "A new approach to infectious arthritis: understanding bacterial behavior in synovial fluid and developing a novel therapeutic"
DESCRIPTION:“A new approach to infectious arthritis: understanding bacterial behavior in synovial fluid and developing a novel therapeutic” \nBrief Description: This seminar will highlight our group’s work on how and why bacteria form free-floating biofilms in synovial fluid including our ex-vivo model system. The seminar will then focus on our development of a novel therapeutic\, BIO-PLY\, for the treatment of Staphylococcus aureus infectious arthritis and its demonstrated efficacy both ex-vivo and in-vivo in an equine model. Lastly\, data from clinical cases of infectious arthritis treated with BIO-PLY at NC State CVM Equine Hospital will be presented. \nLauren Schnabel\, DVM\, PhD \nAssistant Professor \nN.C. SUMMARY:TARC Research Seminar: Dr. Doug Phanstiel; "Genomic Approaches to Understanding the Genetic Risk of Osteoarthritis"
DESCRIPTION:“Genomic Approaches to Understanding the Genetic Risk of Osteoarthritis” \nGenome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified over 100 osteoarthritis (OA)-associated loci; however\, translating these broad loci into actionable therapeutic targets requires identifying the causal variants\, the gene(s) they affect\, and their mechanistic impact on OA risk. We apply genomic\, bioinformatics\, and genome editing approaches to identify novel OA risk genes for further study and therapeutic development. \nDr. Doug Phanstiel \nAssistant Professor of Cell Biology & Physiology \nUNC Chapel Hill \nAttend Live in TARC Dickson Conference Room\, or via Zoom \n\n\n\nVirtual (Zoom) URL: https://zoom.us/j/92101985767?pwd=d3hHbWhHMFlQSm05RmdCVVVmMkVIUT09 \nMeeting ID: 921 0198 5767 \nPasscode: 005755 \nPhone (New York): 929-205-6099 \nPhone (Toll-free): 888-475-4499
