SUMMARY:UNC CCCR Speakers Series: Dr. Virginia Kraus; "Treatment stratification of patients based on biomarker profile"
DESCRIPTION:“Treatment Stratification of Patients Based on Biomarker Profile” \nBrief Description: Stratified medicine involves the use of biomarkers to differentiate patient populations into subsets (i.e. endotypes) that provide more detailed information about the specific causes of conditions\, and predict how patients will respond to a given drug or combination of drugs. The ability to successfully identify different osteoarthritis (OA) endotypes will increase chances of regulatory approval of drugs for OA and ultimately\, transform the current empirical medical practice to efficient data-driven individualized therapeutic strategies with lower risk of medical error. This talk will summarize currently proposed OA endotypes and current prospects and implications. \nVirginia Kraus\, MD\, PhD\nProfessor of Medicine\, Duke University School of Medicine\nMary Bernheim Distinguished Professor of Medicine\nProfessor of Pathology \nRegister to attend via Zoom: https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJIocOmupzIuGNQI5NN5-ofZ8xdPniPOk_8h \n

SUMMARY:UNC CCCR Speakers Series: Dr. Joshua Baker; "The role of obesity in inflammatory arthritis: epidemiologic challenges.”
DESCRIPTION:“The role of obesity in inflammatory arthritis: epidemiologic challenges.”\nBrief Description of Presentation: The risks of obesity in the development and severity of inflammatory arthritis have been difficult to estimate\, partly because body mass is a poor indicator of metabolic health. In this talk we will explore the associations between obesity (as traditionally defined) and clinical outcomes in patients with inflammatory arthritis\, and discuss some work to better define metabolic health to improve prognosis.\nJoshua F. Baker\, MD\, MSCE\nAssociate Professor\, Rheumatology and Epidemiology\nUniversity of Pennsylvania & Philadelphia VA Medical Center\n\nLink to Participate
