DESCRIPTION:“The Genomic Etiology of Osteoarthritis” \nBrief Description: Osteoarthritis is one of the leading causes of disability and pain worldwide\, with over 300 million people affected. Currently no curative treatments are available. A detailed un-derstanding of disease aetiopathology and novel drug targets are therefore urgently needed.\nIn this talk\, I will give an overview of how we have used translational genomics approaches to en-hance our understanding of the genetic aetiology of osteoarthritis\, shed novel biological insights\, and provide a stepping stone for translating genetic associations into osteoarthritis drug development. \nDr. Eleftheria Zeggini\nDirector\, Institute of Translational Genomics\, Helmholtz Munich\nTUM Liesel Beckmann Distinguished Professorship at the Technical \n(NOTE: This Presentation is Virtual Only) \nJoin Zoom Meeting: https://zoom.us/j/92001458337?pwd=d0JvRm9sMmxuTTZmd0lGTkMvNjBKdz09\nMeeting ID: 920 0145 8337\nPasscode: 151356\nOne tap mobile\n+13126266799\,\,92001458337#\,\,\,\,*151356# US (Chicago)\n+16465588656\,\,92001458337#\,\,\,\,*151356# US (New York) \n  \n

SUMMARY:TARC Research Seminar: Dr. Ming-Feng Hsueh; "Novel mechanisms of microRNA-mediated anabolic effects in osteoarthritis"
DESCRIPTION:“Novel mechanisms of microRNA-mediated anabolic effects in osteoarthritis” \nBrief Description: Through the novel use of in vivo protein deamidation molecular clocks\, we unmasked a position-dependent gradient of protein anabolism in human lower limb cartilages. This gradient is strikingly associated with the expression of evolutionarily-conserved limb-regenerative miRNAs. This association shows a potential link to a capacity for regeneration that might be exploited to enhance joint repair. \nDr. Ming-Feng Hsueh\, Assistant Professor\nDepartment of or of Orthopedic surgery\nDuke University \nAttend in TARC Dickson Conference room\, or remotely. \nJoin Zoom Meeting https://zoom.us/j/97766513682?pwd=ck1OZVNnRFdNNmFHc3gyaUU3TmxDdz09 \nMeeting ID: 977 6651 3682\nPasscode: 432508\nOne tap mobile\n+13017158592\,\,97766513682#\,\,\,\,*432508# US (Washington DC)\n+13052241968\,\,97766513682#\,\,\,\,*432508# US \n

SUMMARY:TARC Research Seminar: Dr. Brian Diekman; "DNA Damage and Cellular Senescence in Osteoarthritis Pathophysiology.”
DESCRIPTION:“DNA damage and cellular senescence in osteoarthritis pathophysiology.” \nBrief Description: Aging is the largest risk factor for osteoarthritis\, but the mechanisms responsible for this relationship are unclear. Damaged cells can convert to a phenotypic state known as cellular senescence\, and senescent cells are associated with compromised tissue function. This talk will focus on our efforts to understand the accumulation of DNA damage in chondrocytes during aging\, and to assess whether the activation of more efficient DNA damage repair has promise as a strategy to limit cellular senescence and osteoarthritis. \nDr. Brian Diekman\nAssistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering\nUNC-CH & NC State Joint Department of BME \nAttend Live in TARC Dickson Conference Room\, or via Zoom: https://zoom.us/j/97841158212?pwd=MTRpRXVUbHJNY1AzTmRuS1lLWjM1QT09 \nMeeting ID: 978 4115 8212\nPasscode: 922015\nOne tap mobile:\n+13017158592\,\,97841158212#\,\,\,\,*922015# US (Washington DC)\n+13052241968\,\,97841158212#\,\,\,\,*922015# US \n  \n

SUMMARY:TARC Research Seminar: Dr. Janet Rubin; "The Skeleton in a Physical World"
DESCRIPTION:“The Skeleton in a Physical World” \nBrief Description: All organisms exist within a physical space and respond to physical forces as part of daily life. The skeleton responds in real-time to physical stresses placed on it to ensure that its structure supports its function. I will discuss how those cells responsible for remodeling skeletal structure respond to mechanical force (load magnitude\, frequency\, and cyclicity)\, and how force rearranges cellular structure in turn. Next I will discuss how maturation into cells that remodel bone is affected by mechanical force and the cell’s cytoskeleton. I will also consider how this information applies to a prescriptive for intelligent exercise. \nDr. Janet Rubin\nSarah Graham Kenan Distinguished Professor of\nMedicine\, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism\nVice Chair for Research\, Department of Medicine\nUniversity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill \nAttend Live in TARC Dickson Conference Room\, or via Zoom: https://zoom.us/j/99184257365?pwd=Sk12ZDVON3NpSlZydjl5RTdHRlVidz09 \nMeeting ID: 921 0198 5767\nPasscode: 005755\nPhone (New York): 929-205-6099\nPhone (Toll-free): 888-475-4499 \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:UNC CCCR Speakers Series: Dr. Virginia Kraus; "Treatment stratification of patients based on biomarker profile"
DESCRIPTION:“Treatment Stratification of Patients Based on Biomarker Profile” \nBrief Description: Stratified medicine involves the use of biomarkers to differentiate patient populations into subsets (i.e. endotypes) that provide more detailed information about the specific causes of conditions\, and predict how patients will respond to a given drug or combination of drugs. The ability to successfully identify different osteoarthritis (OA) endotypes will increase chances of regulatory approval of drugs for OA and ultimately\, transform the current empirical medical practice to efficient data-driven individualized therapeutic strategies with lower risk of medical error. This talk will summarize currently proposed OA endotypes and current prospects and implications. \nVirginia Kraus\, MD\, PhD\nProfessor of Medicine\, Duke University School of Medicine\nMary Bernheim Distinguished Professor of Medicine\nProfessor of Pathology \nRegister to attend via Zoom: https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJIocOmupzIuGNQI5NN5-ofZ8xdPniPOk_8h \n
