{"id":11550,"date":"2021-06-11T12:33:11","date_gmt":"2021-06-11T16:33:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/tarc\/?page_id=11550"},"modified":"2021-06-14T11:54:45","modified_gmt":"2021-06-14T15:54:45","slug":"dr-clevelands-research","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/tarc\/more-information-about-our-research\/dr-clevelands-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr. Cleveland&#8217;s Research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Rebecca Cleveland\u2019s research involves identifying predictors of osteoarthritis (OA) outcomes including joint changes, pain and disability. <strong>Pain and disability<\/strong> are leading consequences of OA, and are conditions associated with a number of <strong>comorbidities and even death<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A particular interest of Dr. Cleveland has been carrying out research to investigate how OA and comorbid conditions lead to premature mortality.<\/p>\n<p>Other interests include social determinants, BMI, physical activity and physical functioning as predictors of OA outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Cleveland\u2019s team uses statistical methods to support various projects across TARC and its affiliates with regard to their biostatistical needs, including consultation on design, conduct, analysis and dissemination.<\/p>\n<p>The team is particularly interested in using statistical techniques that have traditionally not been used in OA research such as <strong>data reduction methods, machine learning and precision medicine for outcome prediction<\/strong>.
