{"id":2335,"date":"2008-01-16T17:30:00","date_gmt":"2008-01-16T22:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/timetoconceive\/what-is-time-to-conceive-1\/study-activities-1\/"},"modified":"2018-06-29T13:35:33","modified_gmt":"2018-06-29T17:35:33","slug":"study-activities-1","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/timetoconceive\/what-is-time-to-conceive-1\/study-activities-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Study Activities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Participants in Time to Conceive will be asked to complete the activities listed below.<\/em><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>To participate in Time to Conceive you will need to complete a telephone <a href=\"#Screening_Visit\">screening interview<\/a>, attend a <a href=\"#Study_Visit\">study visit<\/a>, keep a daily <a href=\"#Fertility_Calendar\">fertility diary<\/a>, take in-home <a href=\"#Pregnancy_Testing\">pregnancy tests<\/a> and <a href=\"#Ovulation_Testing\">ovulation tests<\/a>, and undergo an early pregnancy <a href=\"#Ultrasound\">ultrasound<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Screening Interview<a name=\"Screening_Visit\"><\/a><\/h2>\n<p>The first part of the study is to determine if you can be in the study. During this <b>phone interview<\/b> you will<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be asked questions to see if you are eligible to participate<\/li>\n<li>Receive information about study activities<\/li>\n<li>Be allowed to ask questions about the study<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This screening interview should take approximately 20 minutes.<\/p>\n<h2>Study Visit<a name=\"Study_Visit\"><\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Your study visit will be scheduled on the second, third, or fourth day of your period at one of our <a href=\"\/timetoconceive\/what-is-time-to-conceive-1\/directions\">three study sites<\/a>. At the study visit you will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Review and sign the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/timetoconceive\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/759\/2018\/06\/adult-consent-form.pdf\">study consent forms<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Provide a blood sample of about 3 tablespoons<\/li>\n<li>Provide a first-morning urine sample<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The study visit will take about 20 minutes.<\/p>\n<h2>Online Fertility Diary<a name=\"Fertility_Calendar\"><\/a><\/h2>\n<p>While you are trying to get pregnant, we will ask you to keep a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shepscenter.unc.edu\/ttc\/Calendar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fertility diary<\/a> online in which you will record menstruation, intercourse, medications, signs of ovulation, and pregnancy test results. We ask that you keep the daily diaries for up to 4 months. Daily entries should take approximately 3 minutes to complete. After 4 months, you will be prompted to complete monthly diaries. Participants will be able to automatically track their diary entries graphically using our free fertility tracking program.<\/p>\n<h2>Pregnancy Testing<a name=\"Pregnancy_Testing\"><\/a><\/h2>\n<p>We provide you with up to 60 free pregnancy tests while you are trying to conceive. You should use your pregnancy tests only when you miss a period, starting on day 28 of your cycle. Because we are standardizing when our study participants test for pregnancy, we ask that you test every 3 days from day 28 onwards. You will be prompted in your daily diary when you will be required to take a pregnancy test. We ask that you enter the results of each pregnancy test in your online fertility diary. You can find instructions on how to use the pregnancy tests <a href=\"\/timetoconceive\/study-participant-resources\/pregnancy-test-instructions\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Ovulation Testing<\/h2>\n<p class=\" \">We provide you with up to 180 free ovulation predictor tests while you are trying to conceive (15 test strips\/month). You should use your ovulation test strips as directed. You can find instructions on how to use the ovulation predictor tests <a class=\"internal-link\" title=\"Ovulation Predictor Test Instructions\" href=\"\/timetoconceive\/study-participant-resources\/ovulation-predictor-test-instructions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Pregnancy Ultrasound<a name=\"Ultrasound\"><\/a><\/h2>\n<p>When you have your positive pregnancy test, we will schedule an ultrasound at one of <a href=\"\/timetoconceive\/what-is-time-to-conceive-1\/directions\">two study sites<\/a> to evaluate the pregnancy. The ultrasound will be scheduled during the 7th week of pregnancy. You will be provided pictures, and at your request, a copy of the report can be sent to your doctor.
