The UNC Men’s Health Program recently participated in the Lumbee Tribe of NC’s Veteran Stand Down event, held at the Pembroke Boys & Girls Club. This impactful event brought together over 120 attendees and offered a wide array of vital resources, including health screenings, dental and mental health services, and employment assistance.

Dr. Eric Wallen, Director of UNC Men’s Health Program, Professor of Urology, and Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center Member, was on-site to emphasize the importance of proactive health measures, particularly for men’s health issues like prostate cancer. During the event, Dr. Wallen engaged with attendees, underscoring the significance of screenings and early detection.

Highlighting Their Commitment to Community Health

The UNC Men’s Health Program collaborated with LabCorp to conduct screenings for those in attendance – offering prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests. Over 45 men were screened during the event.

Men’s Health Report Card: Empowering North Carolina Communities

In addition to screening events, the UNC Men’s Health Program recently published the North Carolina Men’s Health Report Card – a tool they hope will serve as a pivotal resource for those in the community. Drawing from diverse data sources to offer a comprehensive view of men’s health across the state, its primary goal is to illuminate existing health challenges and equip readers with actionable insights to champion the health of their loved ones and communities.

This report is designed as a vital tool for individuals, communities, healthcare providers, and policymakers invested in advancing men’s health outcomes. Explore the full Men’s Health Report Card and download it here.
