The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has been selected as an “Organizational Member” of the American Cancer Society (ACS) National Prostate Cancer Roundtable (NPCRT) — a national coalition advancing coordinated, evidence-based strategies to improve prostate cancer outcomes across the United States.
Established in 2024, the ACS National Prostate Cancer Roundtable brings together leading institutions, professional organizations, advocacy groups, and health systems to address rising prostate cancer incidence and persistent disparities in care. Its mission is to improve prostate cancer outcomes and survivorship by increasing awareness and equitable access to prevention, screening, and treatment.
Organizational Membership signifies an active commitment to advancing the Roundtable’s shared national agenda. Members participate in collaborative strategy development, professional education initiatives, and implementation efforts designed to influence policy, improve clinical practice, and promote evidence-based care across the prostate cancer continuum.
A National Strategy to Address a Growing Challenge
After years of declining cancer mortality overall, prostate cancer has seen a concerning rise in new diagnoses nationally. The NPCRT was formed in response to this trend — convening experts to reverse course through coordinated action.
The Roundtable’s strategic focus areas include:
- Expanding access to risk assessment and evidence-based screening, particularly for high-risk populations
- Improving equitable, multidisciplinary treatment strategies for localized disease
- Advancing timely implementation of next-generation imaging, therapies, and supportive care for advanced prostate cancer
Embedded throughout this work is a commitment to reducing disparities and improving outcomes for high-risk men who continue to experience disproportionately worse outcomes.
“Prostate cancer continues to disproportionately affect high-risk communities. Through collaboration with the American Cancer Society’s National Prostate Cancer Roundtable, UNC Urology is committed to advancing evidence-based screening and care models that ensure all men — regardless of geography or background — have access to timely, high-quality prostate cancer care.”

UNC Urology Aligns with National Strategy
These priorities reflect the efforts of UNC Urology, including advancing early detection pathways and shared decision-making frameworks, delivering multidisciplinary genitourinary oncology care, and addressing inconsistencies in access and outcomes.
Participation in the ACS NPCRT positions UNC Urology within a collaborative network shaping the future of prostate cancer awareness, screening, treatment, and survivorship. It strengthens connections between academic medicine, public health strategy, policy development, and community engagement — ensuring that innovations developed nationally are informed by clinical realities and patient needs on the ground.
For the people of North Carolina, this means that prostate cancer initiatives occurring at the national level will increasingly intersect with the work happening here in Chapel Hill. For the broader field, it means UNC Urology is contributing its expertise to help define what high-quality, equitable prostate cancer care should look like across the country.
