UNC Department of Urology faculty, staff and their family members recently came together for an evening of service at the SECU (State Employee Credit Union) Family House in Chapel Hill. They prepared and served a festive dinner for approximately 60 patients and caregivers who are staying there while receiving care at UNC Hospitals.
Organized by Mary Dunn, NP-C, and supported by the department’s Wellbeing Committee, the UNC team prepared food, donated supplies, and helped serve guests. The event provided a unique opportunity for the team to provide a welcoming experience for families facing serious medical conditions and treatments far from home.
The SECU Family House offers affordable lodging and a supportive environment for adult patients and their caregivers who travel to UNC Health for specialized care, including cancer treatment, transplants, trauma recovery, and other complex medical needs.
The event reflected one of the Wellbeing Committee’s core priorities, service to others, and highlighted the generosity and teamwork that define UNC Urology. According to SECU House staff, the group’s organization, efficiency, and enthusiasm made a meaningful impact on the evening’s guests.
