We are proud to announce that Dr. Gianpaolo (Gino) Carpinito, who recently joined the UNC Urology team as a Urologic Oncology Fellow, has been awarded the distinguished Pope Fellowship Award through the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The Pope Fellowship Award recognizes Dr. Carpinito’s exceptional potential and will facilitate Dr. Carpinito’s collaboration with mentors and the Pope Fellowship leadership to develop an individualized training program that includes relevant workshops and formal coursework, ensuring comprehensive professional growth.
The Pope Fellowship provides up to $50,000 annually for up to two years, supporting intramural research efforts. The fellowship is designed to foster the development of promising young researchers by offering an interdisciplinary training curriculum. Fellows participate in various enriching activities such as in-house post-doctoral seminars, the Annual UNC Lineberger Postdoctoral Fellow Research Day, panel discussions on career advancement, ethics in research training, monthly research clubs, interactions with patient advocates, and grant writing and review programs.

More About Dr. Carpinito
Dr. Carpinito’s journey in medicine began at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in English in 2014. He then pursued his Doctor of Medicine at the Boston University School of Medicine, graduating cum laude in 2019. Dr. Carpinito continued to hone his expertise at the UT Southwestern Urology Residency Training Program in Dallas, TX. He joins UNC Urology as our 2024-2026 Urologic Oncology Fellow.
