We are pleased to announce that Richard Natale II, MD, FACS has joined UNC Urology. Dr. Natale brings more than 15 years of experience in community-based urologic practice, with expertise in men’s health, sexual dysfunction, and prosthetic urology.
His arrival strengthens UNC Urology’s commitment to delivering comprehensive, patient-centered care while expanding access to specialized men’s health services for patients across North Carolina.
A Strong Foundation in Clinical Excellence
Born and raised in Southern California, Dr. Natale grew up in a family of physicians, an experience that shaped both his early interest in medicine and his understanding of the physician’s role in guiding patients through complex health decisions. He earned his undergraduate degree in biological sciences with honors from the University of Southern California before attending medical school at the University of Louisville School of Medicine.
He completed his urology residency at the University of Florida in 2009, where he also served as Administrative Chief Resident. Following residency, Dr. Natale established his practice in North Carolina, where he has spent the past 16 years caring for patients in the Charlotte metropolitan area, including Concord and Mint Hill.
While Dr. Natale treats a broad range of urologic conditions, his clinical focus has centered on men’s health. His expertise includes the diagnosis and treatment of erectile dysfunction, urinary incontinence, Peyronie’s disease, low testosterone, and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
He has extensive experience in prosthetic urology, including penile implants for erectile restoration and placement of male urethral slings and artificial urinary sphincters for continence restoration. Over the course of his career, he has performed more than 1,000 prosthetic implant procedures, including complex revision surgeries.
Leadership and Regional Impact
Throughout his career, Dr. Natale has held numerous leadership roles within urology group practices and hospital systems. He has served as President and Chair of the Board of Directors for Carolina Urology Partners and as Chief of Urology at Atrium Health Cabarrus–Northeast. His leadership experience reflects a longstanding commitment not only to clinical excellence, but also to advancing systems of care and supporting multidisciplinary collaboration.
He is board-certified by the American Board of Urology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also an active member of multiple professional societies, including the American Urological Association and the Society of Urologic Prosthetic Surgeons.
Advancing Men’s Health at UNC Urology
In addition to his surgical expertise, Dr. Natale is a dedicated advocate for men’s health—particularly prostate cancer screening and survivorship care. His work has emphasized the importance of thoughtful, evidence-based screening conversations and comprehensive follow-up for patients navigating life after prostate cancer treatment.
Dr. Natale’s addition further strengthens UNC Urology’s depth in sexual medicine and reconstructive urology while enhancing the Department’s broader commitment to men’s health across the continuum of care. His experience caring for patients in both community and hospital-based settings brings valuable perspective as UNC continues to expand access to advanced, specialized urologic care throughout North Carolina.
We are excited to welcome Dr. Natale to Chapel Hill and look forward to the impact he will have on our patients, trainees, and colleagues.
