We are excited to announce that Dr. Zachary Feuer, one of our current Urologic Oncology Fellows, will be joining the UNC Urology faculty. Dr. Feuer will complete his fellowship in July 2025 and transition to his new role as Assistant Professor in Urology later that summer. His appointment underscores UNC Urology’s commitment to fostering a world-class team.

Dr. Feuer’s expertise, dedication to mentorship, and passion for improving patient and community outcomes will be invaluable as UNC Urology continues to lead the way in urologic oncology. We are proud to welcome him to our faculty and look forward to his future contributions.

A Commitment to Excellence in Urologic Oncology

Dr. Feuer earned his medical degree from SUNY Downstate in New York City, where he was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. During his urology residency at NYU Langone Health, Dr. Feuer was recognized for his outstanding contributions to medical student education and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. His commitment to improving the quality of care for patients with urologic cancers has been a hallmark of his career thus far.

As a Urologic Oncology Fellow at UNC, Dr. Feuer has made meaningful contributions to advancing the care of patients with prostate, kidney, and bladder cancers. He serves as a peer reviewer for multiple urologic journals and is a member of the Society for Urologic Oncology. His work has included research on quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing health care delivery and the use of innovative diagnostic tools like MRI to improve the accuracy and efficiency of cancer diagnoses and treatment.

Dr. Feuer brings innovative expertise in the management of prostate cancer. He will be building our focal therapy program to provide this cutting-edge treatment for select patients with localized prostate cancer. Focal therapy seeks to target the cancerous tissue as opposed to the whole prostate to reduce side effects, offering patients a promising alternative to traditional treatment. With this addition to our comprehensive prostate cancer care, we reaffirm our commitment to providing advanced, patient-centered treatment options that enhance outcomes and quality of life.

Dedication to Patient-Centered Care and Outreach

Dr. Feuer’s passion for patient-centered care extends beyond the clinic. During his residency, he became a certified Spanish-language interpreter, a skill he developed to bridge communication gaps and better serve Spanish-speaking patients. During his time in Chapel Hill, Dr. Feuer has led prostate cancer education sessions in Spanish for the local community, ensuring that critical health information was accessible to all.

Dr. Feuer has also played an integral role in UNC Urology’s rapid access program, which significantly reduces wait times for patients with suspected prostate cancer by streamlining diagnostic and treatment pathways. His leadership and collaboration with UNC Radiology and multidisciplinary teams have made a tangible impact on the quality of care, reducing previous wait times by over 70%. We are excited for even more improvement projects that will allow us to provide the best possible care experience for our patients with urologic cancer.
