{"id":9452,"date":"2022-03-17T19:32:37","date_gmt":"2022-03-17T23:32:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/urology\/?page_id=9452"},"modified":"2022-05-19T16:48:43","modified_gmt":"2022-05-19T20:48:43","slug":"career-development-mentoring-program","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/urology\/about-us\/career-development-mentoring-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Faculty Career Development &#038; Mentoring Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Guiding Principles and Goals<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Create a career development program for faculty members.<\/li>\n<li>Set up a regular and effective means of mentoring and fostering individual career development.<\/li>\n<li>Provide a systematic, coordinated program to help faculty identify, focus on, and achieve their individual career goals.<\/li>\n<li>Establish guidelines for expectations for the faculty as well as for their mentors.<\/li>\n<li>Each faculty member at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level will be paired with a mentor within the Department. The mentor should be an Associate Professor or Full Professor. This does not preclude having multiple mentors.<\/li>\n<li>Mentor-mentee pairs are encouraged to meet regularly: suggested frequency every 3 months for Assistant Professors and every 6 months for Associate Professors.<\/li>\n<li>Each faculty member at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level will be encouraged to seek a mentor outside of the Department, identified with the help of a departmental mentor (or other faculty) to provide supplemental guidance<\/li>\n<li>For those conducting research, a research mentor either within or outside of the department is strongly encouraged.<\/li>\n<li>The Faculty Career Development Committee will review individual faculty development, promotion timelines, and guide and support faculty members and their mentors.<\/li>\n<li>Faculty members will have an annual review by the Faculty Career Development Committee, attended by the mentor and mentee.<\/li>\n<li>Recommendations coming from the Faculty Career Development Committee will be forwarded to the faculty member and Department Chair as deemed appropriate by the committee.<\/li>\n<li>The Department will continue to provide the infrastructure necessary to facilitate individual and departmental goals.<\/li>\n<li>The Department will host an annual workshop focused on mentorship skills\/training with topics solicited by Faculty Career Development Committee through discussions with mentees\/mentors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Guiding Principles and Goals Create a career development program for faculty members.
