As part of the program, Dr. Friedlander will receive training, mentorship, and guidance from IHQI Faculty Coaches, as well as half-time support from an IHQI project manager for 1 year.<\/p>\n<h2>About David Friedlander, MD, MPH<\/h2>\n<p>After graduating  from Bowdoin College, Dr. Friedlander spent a year working in the California state capitol as a research fellow in the office of the vice-chair of the health committee.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Friedlander received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN during which time he also completed an MPH at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health. He subsequently completed his residency at Brigham and Women\u2019s Hospital in Boston, MA where he stayed on for an NIH-funded research fellowship. He then completed a clinical fellowship in endourology and minimally invasive surgery at the University of California-San Diego.<\/p>\n<p>His research interests include understanding how health care policy affects surgical outcomes and costs, as well as understanding both clinical and social factors that influence the quality of health care delivery. More recently, his research efforts have focused on characterizing and determining factors associated with high-value pathways of surgical care, with a particular interest in the treatment of urinary stones and benign urological conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Friedlander joined UNC Urology in 2020 and is currently an Assistant Professor of Urology. Recently, Dr. Friedlander has focused on characterizing and identifying factors associated with high-value pathways of surgical care, with a special interest in urinary stones and benign urological conditions. His selection as an Improvement Scholar by the UNC Institute for Healthcare Quality Improvement (IHQI) is a testament to his dedication to improving healthcare delivery and outcomes for
