This event offers a platform for collaboration, innovation, and exchange of ideas among the medical community. Additionally, over the next two years, with this award Dr. Gessner will be able to participate in programing comprising leadership development workshops, peer review groups, and a physician-scientist pathway series, among other enriching activities. These initiatives have been carefully crafted by the ASCI to nurture the potential of early-career physician-scientists to be leaders in their organization and empowered to continue making contributions to the field.<\/p>\n<h2>More About Dr. Gessner<\/h2>\n<p>Dr. Gessner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/urology\/unc-urologys-newest-faculty-member-kathryn-hacker-gessner-md-phd\/\">joined our ranks as a Faculty member<\/a> just a few short months ago in December of 2023. She is no stranger to Chapel Hill &#8211; having completed her Doctor of Philosophy, Medical Doctorate, Urology Residency, and a Clinical Fellowship in Urologic Oncology, all at UNC.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Gessner specializes in the care of patients with genitourinary cancers and leads a translational research lab dedicated to unraveling the complexities of bladder and kidney tumors. Her pioneering work utilizes genomic analysis to uncover crucial insights into tumor biology with the goal of enhancing treatment decisions and improving patient outcomes.<\/p>\n<h2>About The American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI)<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/beta.the-asci.org\/\">The American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI)<\/a> seeks to support the scientific efforts, educational needs, and clinical aspirations of physician-scientists to improve the health of all people.<\/p>\n<p>The ASCI is a nonprofit medical honor society composed of more than 3,000 physician-scientists representing all medical specialties.
