\"Dr.In February 2026, the Department of Urology proudly hosted the inaugural \u201cUNC Urology Culley C. Carson III, MD Visiting Professorship in Men\u2019s Health<\/a>,\u201d a new academic tradition created to honor the legacy of one of the department\u2019s most influential leaders while bringing distinguished experts in men\u2019s health to Chapel Hill.<\/p>\n

Named in recognition of Dr. Culley C. Carson III<\/a>, this visiting professorship celebrates both his enduring contributions to UNC Urology and his longstanding leadership in the field of sexual medicine and men\u2019s health. Dr. Carson served as Chair of the Division of Urology from 1993 to 2010 (then a division of the Department of Surgery), guiding the department through a period of tremendous growth in clinical care, education, and research. Over the course of his career, he has earned international recognition as a pioneer in the diagnosis and treatment of male sexual dysfunction and has mentored generations of urologists who continue to shape the field today.<\/p>\n

\"Dr.The inaugural visiting professor was Dr. Mohit (Mo) Khera<\/a>, Professor of Urology and Director of the Laboratory for Andrology Research at Baylor College of Medicine<\/a>. A nationally recognized expert in sexual medicine, testosterone therapy, and men\u2019s health, Dr. Khera has played a leading role in advancing both research and clinical care in the field. His work has influenced clinical guidelines and patient care practices across the country, making him an ideal choice to serve as the first visiting professor for this new initiative.<\/p>\n

A Gathering to Celebrate Legacy and Leadership<\/h2>\n

The professorship began with an evening gathering that brought together current UNC Urology faculty and trainees alongside Dr. Carson, members of his family, and Dr. Khera. <\/p>\n

\"Drs.The following morning, Dr. Khera delivered the visiting professor Grand Rounds lecture, presenting insights from his work in men\u2019s health and sexual medicine. The event drew a broader audience that included faculty, trainees, and some returning alumni – providing an opportunity for the department to reflect on Dr. Carson\u2019s enduring influence on UNC Urology and the generations of physicians he mentored during his tenure as chair.<\/p>\n

During the Grand Rounds, Dr. Carson was also presented with a tribute book containing reflections and memories shared by former trainees, colleagues, and alumni whose careers were shaped by his leadership and mentorship.<\/p>\n

The UNC Urology Culley C.
