Smith\" width=\"291\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/urology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/637\/2018\/04\/dr-angela-smith-take-home-messages-bladder-cancer-1-image3-291x300.jpeg 291w, https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/urology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/637\/2018\/04\/dr-angela-smith-take-home-messages-bladder-cancer-1-image3.jpeg 388w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 291px) 100vw, 291px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Baltimore, MD, February 27, 2018<\/strong> &#8211; Today, the <a class=\"external-link\" title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/auanet.org\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">American Urological Association (AUA)<\/a> announced a modernized structure to better align its international growth with its global footprint and to further develop wide-reaching collaborations and opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>Three new Assistant Secretary positions, each with a distinct global geographic region of responsibility, have been approved by the AUA Board of Directors.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"internal-link\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/urology\/directory\/angela-smith-md-ms\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Angela B. Smith, MD, MS, FACS<\/a>, an Assistant Professor of Urology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, has been appointed as one of the three new Assistant Secretaries and will oversee the AUA\u2019s partnerships in Latin America and the Caribbean.<\/p>\n<p>As Assistant Secretary, Dr. Smith will play a critical role in supporting the AUA Secretary in shaping and executing the AUA\u2019s international strategy, programming, and activities. She will also assist in implementing the AUA\u2019s International Education Plan and help identify new opportunities with national and multi-national urological societies.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, she will work to maintain relationships with key urologists and other strategic partners across the globe, participate in the AUA\u2019s Annual Meeting, and serve as section editors for the AUA publication, <a class=\"external-link\" title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.auanet.org\/publications\/auanews\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AUANews<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>These newly created positions are a reflection of the continuity and foundation Dr. Inderbir Gill established during his tenure as AUA\u2019s Chair of Global Initiatives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;text-align: center\">\u201cToday\u2019s announcement further solidifies our commitment to advancing urology on a universal scale.
