Dr. Coward will serve a 3-year term on the Board and is currently holding the position as the\u00a0<em>Member-At-Large<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"lead\">Recently, as part of a partnership between the SMRU and the <a href=\"https:\/\/ssmr.org\/\">Society for the Study of Male Reproduction (SSMR)<\/a>, Dr. Coward helped develop the virtual lecture series SMILES (SSMR\/SMRU Male Infertility Lecture Educational Series). The recorded videos of the series are published online at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ssmr.org\/meetings\/webinars.aspx\">https:\/\/ssmr.org\/meetings\/webinars.aspx<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"lead\">Dr. Coward\u2019s work on the SMRU Board is well underway with preparations for the SMRU program at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.asrm.org\/events\/upcoming-meetings\/events\/2021-10-16\/\">77th American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) Scientific Congress &amp; Expo<\/a>. Matthew Coward, MD, FACS<\/a><br \/>\nAssociate Professor of Urology<br \/>\nDirector of Male Reproductive Medicine and Surgery<\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-lg-3 col-md-4 col-xs-12 col-sm-6 oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/urology\/directory\/r-matthew-coward-md-facs\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5519 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/urology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/637\/2019\/05\/Matt_Coward_full-214x300.jpeg\" alt=\"Matt Coward, MD, FACS\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>About the Society for Male Reproduction and Urology (SMRU)<\/h2>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/connect.asrm.org\/smru\/home\">Society for Male Reproduction and Urology (SMRU)<\/a>\u00a0promotes the advancement of our understanding of male reproductive physiology and the management of male infertility by providing a forum for the dissemination of both basic science and clinical research information while also supporting multiple educational programs.<\/p>\n<p>The SMRU is an affiliated society of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).<\/p>\n<h2>About Dr. Coward<\/h2>\n<p>A North Carolina native, Dr. Coward is an Associate Professor of Urology at UNC School of Medicine and urologic microsurgeon specialized in the treatment of male fertility. He received his MD with Distinction from UNC and completed his internship in General Surgery and residency training in Urology at UNC. Board-certified by the American Board of Urology, Dr. Coward has been with UNC Urology and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/uncfertility.com\/\">UNC Fertility<\/a>\u00a0since 2013 after completing a microsurgical fellowship in Male Reproductive Medicine and Surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He is currently the Director of Male Reproductive Medicine and Surgery at UNC Fertility, and he is the Fellowship Director for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/urology\/education\/fellowship-programs\/andrology\/\">UNC Men\u2019s Health Fellowship<\/a>\u00a0which provides training for future leaders in male fertility treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Coward was recently named to the AUA Leadership Program for 2021-2022.\u00a0 He has also been consecutively named to the prestigious Best Doctors in America\u00ae lists in 2015-16, 2017-2018, and 2019-2020, a distinction achieved by less than 5 percent of the physicians in the United States. He has been the recipient of numerous academic awards throughout his career including\u00a0<em>Phi Beta Kappa<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society<\/em>.
