Special thanks to my incredible <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UNCurology?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@UNCurology<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UNCUroOnc?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@UNCUroOnc<\/a> team for the \ud83c\udf1e\u2795\ud83d\udca7\u2795nutrients that allow me to grow\ud83c\udf3f\u2764\ufe0f\ud83d\udc4a <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Lhn5b09UEM\">pic.twitter.com\/Lhn5b09UEM<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Angie Smith (@angiesmith_uro) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/angiesmith_uro\/status\/1530252019834900482?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 27, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/unclineberger.org\/news\/angela-smith-finds-community-at-unc-lineberger-urologic-oncology\/\">Dr. Smith\u2019s journey at UNC<\/a>\u00a0started as an undergraduate, with Bachelor\u2019s degrees in Music Performance and Biostatistics, prior to matriculating to medical school where she achieved AOA honors before completing her residency training in urology in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Since joining the faculty, Dr. Smith has built up a busy practice in urologic oncology, recognized by her peers year-over-year in Castle Connolly\u2019s Top Doctors, where she has also been recognized among \u201cExceptional Women in Medicine.\u201d \u00a0She has served as the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/urology\/dr-angela-smith-new-director-of-urologic-oncology\/\">Director of Urologic Oncology<\/a>\u00a0since 2018, during which time the program has grown and thrived.<\/p>\n<p>At this relatively early stage of her career, Dr. Smith has served as a highly visible international leader for the American Urological Association (AUA), as the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/urology\/aua-assistant-secretary-dr-angela-smith-on-serving-in-latin-america-and-the-caribbean\/\">Assistant Secretary for Latin America and the Caribbean<\/a>\u00a0and was recognized by the AUA as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/urology\/smith-named-one-of-the-auas-young-urologists-of-the-year-2020\/\">Young Urologist of the Year 2020<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Smith\u2019s compassionate, patient-centered approach to clinical care informed her transformative research program, centering the voice and experience of patients in the research enterprise. A successful partnership with the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN) identified patient-driven priorities in bladder cancer research, which ultimately led to her successful application for an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/urology\/8-5-million-in-funding-approved-for-bladder-cancer-treatment-research\/\">$8.5 million PCORI award for comparative effectiveness of bladder cancer treatment options<\/a>.
