School of Medicine Homepage Refresh

The School of Medicine homepage has a new look, but this design refresh isn't skin deep. It showcases new functional enhancements that are soon to be available to all School of Medicine sites.

Visual Tour

  1. Image Slider
Using the latest web technologies and standards, we can now offer rich image carousels that don't require the Flash plugin. Not only do such carousels work on iPhones and iPads, but they can contain text captions and links that are more accessible than ever before.
  2. New look for fixed right column portlets
The portlets that you're used to have been brought into the main page area for greater layout flexibility.
  3. Content Well Portlets
As the name suggests, these are portlets that are designed to work in the main content area—a major new feature! Not only do they allow you to have dynamically updated content (i.e. from a Collection, News, Events, or even an RSS feed), but they can be positioned alongside each other, above and/or below the normal content. Used with or without the 3rd column portlets, they can be arranged to create just about any layout you can imagine!
  4. Quick Links
We've been listening! Links to more commonly-sought resources, such as Webmail and the Health Sciences Library, can now be found on the School of Medicine homepage.

Currently, these new features are only available to the main School of Medicine website (www.med.unc.edu). Contact us if you have interest for your site, and we'll let you know when they become available. Questions/comments? Please send us your feedback at webhelp@med.unc.edu.
