All School of Medicine websites include a three-column footer area that displays at the bottom of every page across the site. This area is used for important site-wide content. At a minimum, all SOM sites should include contact information in the site footer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Understanding the Two Footers<\/h2>\n

School of Medicine websites include two separate footer areas.<\/p>\n

SOM Footer (Blue Background)<\/h3>\n

The footer with the blue background<\/strong> is the global School of Medicine footer. This footer is managed centrally by the SOM IT Web Team<\/strong> and is consistent across all SOM websites.<\/p>\n

This footer cannot be customized or edited on a per-site basis.<\/p>\n

Site Footer (Dark Gray Background)<\/h3>\n

The footer with the dark gray background<\/strong> is the site-specific footer. This is the footer area that each site manages independently using widgets.<\/p>\n

Content commonly added to the site footer includes:<\/p>\n

  • Contact information<\/li>\n
  • Social media links<\/li>\n
  • Directions or parking information<\/li>\n
  • Appointment information<\/li>\n
  • Donation links<\/li>\n
  • Related resources<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Edit Existing Footer Content<\/h2>\n

    1. In the Dashboard, go to Appearance \u2192 Widgets<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    2. Locate the Footer<\/strong> widget area on the right side of the screen.<\/li>\n
    3. \u00a0Click to expand the section and view the widgets currently placed there.<\/li>\n
    4. \u00a0Inspect each widget to locate the content you wish to modify.<\/li>\n
    5. Make your changes.<\/li>\n
    6. Click Save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Add a New Widget<\/h2>\n

      Most SOM sites use the Text<\/strong> widget to add footer content.<\/p>\n

      To add a widget:<\/p>\n

      1. Locate the Text<\/strong> widget on the left side of the Widgets screen<\/li>\n
      2. You can add it to the Footer<\/strong>\u00a0widget area using either of the following methods:\n
          \n
        • Drag and Drop<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Drag the widget into the\u00a0Footer<\/strong>\u00a0widget area on the right side of the screen<\/li>\n
        • Add Widget Button<\/strong> \u2013 Click on the Text<\/strong> widget, select Footer<\/strong>\u00a0from the pop-up menu, then click\u00a0Add Widget<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
        • Enter the desired content<\/li>\n
        • Click Save<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          • Keep footer content concise and easy to scan<\/li>\n
          • Avoid overcrowding the footer with too much content<\/li>\n
          • Ensure links use descriptive text<\/li>\n
          • Periodically review footer information for accuracy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
