For security reasons, only users with an active Onyen can be given access to a School of Medicine website. If you need to add someone who is outside of the University, they will need to\u00a0<a style=\"background-color: #ffffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/aux-services.unc.edu\/pid\/#pane-0-2\">get an Affiliate Onyen<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Request Access<\/h2>\n<p>Access to a School of Medicine website is typically granted by the site\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/webguide\/userguide\/web-standards-policies\/primary-site-administrator\/\">Primary Site Administrator<\/a>. They can follow the steps outlined below to add you to the site.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re unsure who the Primary Site Administrator is, contact the Web Team to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/webguide\/getting-help\/request-access-to-a-site\/\">request access<\/a>. Please specify which website(s) you need access to and the appropriate access level (Administrator, Editor, or Author), described below.<\/p>\n<h2>How to Add a New User<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>In the dashboard, click on <strong>Users<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click on the\u00a0<strong>Add New<\/strong>\u00a0button at the top of the page or the\u00a0<strong>Add UNC User<\/strong> link in the dashboard&#8217;s left-hand navigation.<\/li>\n<li>Add the Onyen where indicated. \u00a0You can add multiple users at one time by separating the Onyens with commas or new lines.<\/li>\n<li>Select a role to assign to the new user.<\/li>\n<li>Click the\u00a0<strong>Add Users<\/strong>\u00a0button.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: Some personnel from UNC ITS and School of Medicine IT will be granted access to your site for support reasons. \u00a0These people may display under the <strong>Users<\/strong> category of the dashboard.<\/p>\n<h2>User Roles<\/h2>\n<p>WordPress has five different user roles that can be assigned to individual users, each with their own capabilities and limitations. These roles are, Subscriber, Contributor, Author, Editor, and Administrator. The <strong>Subscriber<\/strong> role is not used on School of Medicine websites since we don\u2019t allow comments on our sites.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone assigned a role on a School of Medicine (SOM) website can add\/delete\/change user roles <em>but<\/em> only at their level and below. For example, a site <strong>Author<\/strong> would not be able to add someone with an <strong>Editor<\/strong> or <strong>Administrator<\/strong> role. They would only be able to add\/edit\/delete site <strong>Authors<\/strong> or <strong>Contributors<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone that is granted the role of site <strong>Administrator<\/strong> must first attend one of our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/webguide\/training-events\/\">Web Training: Introduction classes<\/a> to ensure they understand the basics of the SOM web system. Editors assigned other roles are strongly encouraged to attend this training. It is the responsibility of the primary site administrator to ensure all site editors are adequately trained.<\/p>\n<p>In the following table, the term <strong>media<\/strong>\u00a0pertains to images, files (pdf files, Word documents, PowerPoints, etc.), audio and video.<\/p>\n<table class=\"table table-striped user-role\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<th scope=\"col\">Capabilities<\/th>\n<th scope=\"col\">Contributor<\/th>\n<th scope=\"col\">Author<\/th>\n<th scope=\"col\">Editor<\/th>\n<th scope=\"col\">Administrator<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td scope=\"row\">Can create, edit and delete their own <strong>unpublished news posts and events<\/strong>.
