These updates have been applied globally to the School of Medicine WordPress sites. Web Editors\/Authors should continue to focus on web accessibility improvements (April 26, 2026 deadline), content cleanup, and removing legacy \u201cOld Well\u201d logos where used.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>As many of you are aware, the University of North Carolina has rolled out a new institutional brand identity \u2013 \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unc.edu\/posts\/2025\/11\/05\/carolina-introduces-its-brand-campaign-first-and-for-all\/\">First. And For All.<\/a>\u201d This transition included updates to core website brand assets such as logos, color palettes, typography, and other usage standards.<\/p>\n<p>Currently (as of 3\/16\/2026), School of Medicine-specific web standards have been established with all planned elements implemented across the network. We are asking all web editors, designers, and communicators to review the official branding pages (<a href=\"https:\/\/identity.unc.edu\/content\/websites\/\">University Website Branding<\/a>) (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/intranet\/integrated-communications\/logos-and-branding\/\">School of Medicine Brand Resources<\/a>) and to follow the recommended steps to maintain compliance.<\/p>\n<h2>What Has Been Implemented So Far<\/h2>\n<p>The following global updates have been applied to School of Medicine WordPress websites:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The global School of Medicine WordPress header has been updated to use the <a href=\"https:\/\/unc.edu\/web-assets\/utility-bar\/\">UNC Utility Bar<\/a>, which includes the interlocking NC logo and the &#8220;University of North Carolina&#8221; name.<\/li>\n<li>The website title area has been updated to remove image logos and instead use only typeset for the website title.\n<ul>\n<li>This new setup applies the text &#8220;UNC School of Medicine&#8221; above the site title and before any department\/parent site name (if used.)<\/li>\n<li>Header fonts and font sizes have been updated<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The global School of Medicine WordPress footer logo has been updated to the new interlocking NC logo<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What You Should Do Now<\/h2>\n<p>Editors and communicators should prioritize the following work to maintain compliance:<\/p>\n<h3>Continue Advancing Web Accessibility Compliance<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The WCAG 2.2 standard and the <strong>April 26, 2026 compliance deadline<\/strong> remain in effect (<a href=\"https:\/\/policies.unc.edu\/TDClient\/2833\/Portal\/KB\/ArticleDet?ID=131329\">per official UNC policy<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>Accessibility improvements should continue and will not be impacted by branding changes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Streamline and Improve Content<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Consolidate outdated material<\/li>\n<li>Remove duplicative pages<\/li>\n<li>Improve clarity, navigation, and readability<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Remove Legacy \u201cOld Well\u201d Logos and Brand Elements<\/h3>\n<p>All content <strong>below the Website Title and above the global footer (the Carolina Blue bar with interlocking NC logo)<\/strong> is the responsibility of the website\u2019s Primary Admin and\/or designated Content Editors (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/webguide\/userguide\/web-standards-policies\/who-maintains-site-content\/\">see responsibilities guidance<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Legacy \u201cOld Well\u201d logos, departmental identity marks, and outdated brand elements should be removed from:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Website content<\/li>\n<li>Digital materials<\/li>\n<li>Print materials<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Departments should not introduce new custom logos or brand variations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UNC Brand Transition \u2013 Guidance for School of Medicine Editors &amp; Communicators TL;DR: We have completed rolling out the new, planned brand elements.
