This feature allows you to track changes, compare different versions, and revert to an earlier state of your page. Each time you manually save a draft, update a page, or publish new content, WordPress stores a snapshot.<\/p>\n<div class = \"alert alert-info  oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Revision history is only available for Pages<\/strong>. Posts, Events, Profiles, and other content types do not store revisions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>When to Use Revisions<\/h2>\n<p>Revisions are especially helpful when:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You want to undo an accidental edit.<\/li>\n<li>You made changes that didn\u2019t work out and want to revert to the previous version of the page.<\/li>\n<li>A formatting issue appears and you need to trace what changed.<\/li>\n<li>You want to compare wording or structure between drafts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr  style=\"margin:40px 0\"class=\" rule-thin osc-rule\" \/>\n<h2>Limitations<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Revisions only exist on Pages (not Posts, Events, Profiles, Cells, etc.).<\/li>\n<li>Restoring a revision replaces all page content &#8211; there is no partial restore.<\/li>\n<li>Restoring a past revision replaces the current content and discards any newer changes. As you slide between versions, WordPress highlights changes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Green<\/strong> indicates content that was <strong>added<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Red<\/strong> indicates content that was <strong>removed<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can compare any two non-sequential revisions by checking the box labeled Compare any two revisions.<\/p>\n<p>Hovering over each revision point in the slider will display who made the change and when it was saved, helping you track the edit history across multiple editors.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"imgBorderMed\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-15017\" src=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/webguide\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/419\/2025\/12\/revision-author.png\" alt=\"Screenshot of the revisions slider showing the author, date, and time a revision was made.\" width=\"300\" height=\"87\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/webguide\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/419\/2025\/12\/revision-author.png 371w, https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/webguide\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/419\/2025\/12\/revision-author-300x87.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<hr  style=\"margin:40px 0\"class=\" rule-thin osc-rule\" \/>\n<h2>Restoring a Previous Version<\/h2>\n<p>Once you find the version you want to restore:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click the <strong>Restore This Revision<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n<li>WordPress will replace the current version of the page with the selected version.<\/li>\n<li>You can still undo the restore later because restoring creates another revision.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr  style=\"margin:40px 0\"class=\" rule-thin osc-rule\" \/>\n<h2>Autosaves<\/h2>\n<p>WordPress periodically autosaves content as you work.
