Admission Priorities

In accordance with 45 CFR §96.131 Treatment Services for Pregnant Women of the Substance Abuse Prevention & Treatment Block Grant, pregnant women are given preference in admissions to this program/facility. Priority admission is as follows: (1) Pregnant women using substances intravenously, (2) Pregnant women with a substance use disorder, (3) Women using substances intravenously, (4) All others.

UNC Horizons Program

  • UNC Horizons is a substance use disorder treatment program for women, including those who are pregnant, parenting, and/or whose lives have been touched by abuse and violence.
  • We are a program of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UNC-Chapel Hill. We have sites in Orange and Wake Counties.
  • Our trauma-responsive model of care focuses on both the mother and the child to heal the whole family and create systems of hope and renewal

Confidential, Recovery-oriented, Women-only

  • We are a comprehensive, recovery-focused treatment program with a range of residential and outpatient services including prenatal, post-partum and family planning care, psychiatric services, individual and group counseling and medication to treat opioid use disorder.
  • We also offer assistance with finding employment, creating a budget and managing finances, as well as creating healthy relationships and healing from abuse and violence.

Please note: Horizons clients and all residing and visiting children must agree to vaccinations to be eligible for our program.


Horizons Announces Horizons Homestead Project.

Horizons Homestead is a 32 unit apartment community that will provide residential housing for the
mothers and children participating in our treatment program.
