"I really enjoyed the SURE program in both the work and the people I met. My mentor treated me as part of the lab and I felt as though I accomplished a lot in 10 weeks. Most importantly to me, I realized that graduate school is really what I want to do after college. I feel really prepared both as an applicant and for the lab work in grad school. "In activities from journal clubs to mock interviews to graduate school workshops, we received direction and instruction in all the important areas of being a young scientist. These inculde advice on how to deal with the highs and lows of graduate school and research in general, what to look forward to upon finishing a graduate program, and how to understand the difference between great science, good science, and bad science. In our journal clubs we got a chance to observe some of these issues first hand. For example, we critiqued many papers and could examine mistakes, make suggestions and even think of experiments to solve unanswered questions.
