About
Raised in North Carolina, Dr. Tan graduated from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics and earned undergraduate degrees in Chemistry and Economics from Duke University. He received his medical degree from the University of Michigan where he also completed his residency in urology. Afterward, he pursued advanced fellowship training in urologic oncology and health services research through the Institute of Urologic Oncology and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program at UCLA. During that time, he also served as a staff physician at the Veterans Affairs West Los Angeles Medical Center and the Olive View-UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Tan is excited to be returning home as an Associate Professor in the Department of Urology at UNC.
Dr. Tan specializes in the area of urologic oncology. He is a member of the integrated Multidisciplinary Genitourinary Oncology Group at the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and is committed to providing personalized, high-quality care to patients with kidney, prostate, bladder, and testicular cancer. To meet the health needs of his patients, Dr. Tan’s research focuses on aging and cancer care delivery as well as the comparative effectiveness of new cancer treatments. His research findings have been featured in the Journal of Urology, Cancer, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and the Journal of the American Medical Association.
