“My passion and their mission is absolutely congruent, and it is an honor to be selected for the scholarship,” Locke said. “It will help me be the best PA I can be.”

Locke said he wanted to become a PA to empower people to take responsibility for their health. Before PA school, Locke worked in a rural community as a paramedic. “I took great pride in managing emergencies, but I knew that I wanted to be able to provide more definitive treatment and allow people to focus on enjoying their lives,” he said.

Locke will graduate with the second-ever cohort of PAs from the UNC School of Medicine Department of Allied Health Sciences in December 2018. “There is so much to look forward to,” Locke said. “I am most excited to be able to refer to my preceptors, faculty, and instructors as colleagues.”
